703 - Communicable Disease

The Company has a responsibility to ensure a hazard-free workplace. To that end it is incumbent upon all employees to ensure they are not exposing co-workers or customers to communicable disease(s).

Remember that medical information is confidential, and that precautions must be taken to ensure that information regarding the health of a specific employee is provided only to those persons with a need to know.

Any employee who suspects they may have the symptoms of a communicable disease should contact their manager immediately and refrain from coming into a worksite and obtain a physician’s statement confirming that continued presence at work would pose no significant risk to the employee, co-workers, or customers. Please contact HR if you are unsure when to require an employee to see a physician before returning to work.

Under certain circumstances, the company may obtain medical advice independent of the diagnosing physician or require a second opinion.

Questions about sick leave, pay, etc., from employees with communicable diseases should be directed to the Payroll and Benefits Manager.

If a communicable disease is believed to be work-related, the HR Manager will contact the workers’ compensation carrier regarding possible compensation claims.
